This past New Years Eve, I spent some time around the fire trying to process what goals and dreams I may have for the upcoming year. We just finished 2020, which was to say the least, a difficult year for everyone. Because of that, everything felt like a blur to me. I struggled to reflect back on the year. And I really struggled to look forward to the next year. My mind was cluttered and tired. So I just sat by the fire in silence and solitude.
As I sat, I started to journal. God began to bring things to my mind. I wrote down desires that I had for my marriage, family, friends, ministry, hobbies and even some personal goals. One desire and goal that came to light through that time was writing a devotional. I’ve always enjoyed writing. And I’m wired to be more practical and simple in my writing. My goal when I write has been to encourage people in some simple way to draw closer to Jesus. Writing a devotional is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time but I’ve always put it off. On New Years Eve as I journaled and thought about the year to come, I decided that I would put together a devotional by the end of this year. I didn’t have any details or much clarity on what to write on, but I just knew I needed to write.
Now that we are nearing the back end of 2021, it’s safe to say that the past two years have been quite a combo! I don’t think it’s a coincidence that as I’ve been writing throughout the year, the Lord put the title Refocus on my heart. I don’t know about you, but I have felt so distracted, dry and distant from God at times the past two years, and different seasons of my life. Much of this has been my own doing. But some of it has been connected to the state of the world that we live in. I have needed to Refocus many times, and I’m sure you have to. I still need to!
This devotional that I wrote has twenty different devotional encouragements. Each day walks through a different Scripture and action step in areas that I hope and pray will help bring us to a place of both inward and outward spiritual growth. Each of these action steps have been foundational for me in my walk with Christ. They are not the end all be all, but I believe they cover a wide range of actions and steps that can help Christians Refocus in their walk with Jesus. In my writing journey for this devotional, God gave me these different topics along the way. My hope is that they all connect together to give us a perspective and inspiration for living out our faith. There will also be room in each devotional to journal, in order to process, pray and put into practice what God may be teaching us.
The Refocus devotional will be available this Fall, so be on the look out soon on how you can get a copy!
You can also let me know if you are interested in getting a copy when it comes out, and I’ll make sure to let you know. If you are subscribed to my blog, you will also receive an email as soon as it’s available! I’m excited to share it with you and I hope and pray that God uses it help us Refocus!
