Latest Sermon Video & Notes

This past Sunday, I had the opportunity to preach at Memorial Baptist Church for my friend Dan. It was a really great group of people and I was blessed by our time together! We walked through Isaiah 55:6-11 and learned more about Who God Is…

Below are the main sermon notes and the video. You can fast forward to 31:20 to catch the sermon!

GOD IS:

Isaiah 55:6-11 “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near;let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”

1- God is available to us. (v.6)

Seek the Lord while he may be found; call to him while he is near.

“While” = a sense of urgency!

2. God is compassionate. (v.7)

Let the wicked one abandon his way and the sinful one his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, so he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will freely forgive.

Their repentance would be met with God’s forgiveness

3- God is beyond us, yet with us. (v. 8-9)

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways.” This is the Lord’s declaration. For as heaven is higher than earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

The greatest example of this is JESUS: He became like us (with us), yet never sinned (beyond us)!

2 Corinthians 5:21 — “He made the one who did not know sin to be sinfor us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

4- God is ALWAYS working! (v. 10-11)

For just as rain and snow fall from heaven and do not return there without saturating the earth and making it germinate and sprout, and providing seed to sow and food to eat, so my word that comes from my mouth will not return to me empty, but it will accomplish what I please and will prosper in what I send it to do.”

The book of Isaiah is ultimately pointing to the need and work of Jesus.
