There is a better way!

I stumbled upon this video the other day, of a conversation with David Platt and Francis Chan, two pastors and authors that I have been encouraged by over the years.

They have a conversation about what they are seeing in the generations under them, Millennials and Gen Z. Because I’m a part of one of those generations, and I often minister to both of those generations, their conversation really resonated with me. They addressed two things: the burdens they have and the excitement they have for these generations.

  • The burdens had a lot to do with the grip that technology has on people. These generations are growing up in a world where they have more access than any other generation has ever had to technology. Although this isn’t bad in itself and can be used for good, it is most definitely a challenge.
  • The excitement had to do with the reality that addiction to busyness and technology will not satisfy. Because it won’t satisfy, many people are turning to the peaceful and joy filled life of walking with Jesus Christ. The prayer is that more people come to this point and realize that the way many of us have been living is not the way it has to be or should be.

There is a better way! When we live in addiction to noise, busyness and technology, it truly hinders our walk with the Lord, which includes (but is not limited to) our intimacy with Him and our ability to be in true prayer.

1 Peter 4:7 says, “The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.”

My prayer is that their conversation encourages your heart and challenges you as much as it did me. Hopefully it gives you something to pray through as you examine your own life and also minister to others.
